MR JESUS is going on tour, and we want to meet you in the flesh

Dear (m)otherboard,

We have a film, and that film is going places. Mr Jesus is a short film about a down-on-his-luck actor who wakes up one morning to discover his image has been stolen to make a GenAI Jesus, and now everyone thinks he’s really the Second Coming.

The film will kick off its festival run this weekend at Oak Cliff Film Festival. From there it goes to some other incredible festivals across the US: Sidewalk Film Festival in Birmingham, AL, Breck Film in Breckenridge, CO, and a few more stops we're not allowed to tell you about yet (the festival gods are secretive like that).

Our god(m)other Emily, who co-wrote and directed the film, will be traveling from city to city with the film. Which means there's a real, physical chance to meet each other in person! We want these screenings to be less "watch a movie, go home" and more "gather in a room, laugh at something uncomfortable together, and then talk about it until the theater staff starts flickering the lights." So come. Bring a friend who has opinions about faith or technology or film—or all of the above.

And if the tour doesn't swing through your corner of the world, good news: you don't need our permission or our presence to screen this yourself. Anyone in our community can host their own screening and conversation using an incredible platform called Kinema that can turn your home or any third space into a micro cinema. And because you know we love a facilitated conversation, you can download the discussion guides we co-created with (m)otherboard member Kristina Lizardy-Hajbi. Grow the strange little garden of local gatherings with us!

If you’ve already seen the film with us, we’d love to get your thoughts on what happens next. Tell us YOUR story here, and we’re sharing some of our favorites across the Mr J social channels. Why?

Because we believe comedy is one of the gentlest ways to open a door to heavy conversations that usually has to be kicked down. We have found that a good laugh softens the room just enough that people stop performing their certainty and start actually wondering out loud together, about faith, machines, and what we owe each other in a very online world. That's the spirit we're bringing on the road, and we hope you'll bring it into your own living rooms, neighborhood potlucks, and church basements, too!

See you at a screening, or see you starting one of your own. (But really we would love to meet you in person, wherever you are!)

With love and a little mischief,
The god(m)others
